'For some disgusting reason young sex sells': Jennifer Lawrence reveals repulsion at Miley-style antics as she opens up at Hunger Games premiere

by Unknown  |  at  05:25

Not impressed: Jennifer Lawrence said that she was 'disgusted' that sex sells but stopped short of naming Miley They’re both young women rarely out of the limelight.
But how they deal with that responsibility could not be more different.
The day after pop star Miley Cyrus provoked yet more controversy with her skimpy outfits and lewd dancing, Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Lawrence spoke out against the ‘disgusting’ culture of viewing young women as sex objects.

The 23-year-old star, who last night attended the premiere of her latest film Hunger Games: Catching Fire, said the sexualisation of young women has become so prevalent it is rarely challenged by female performers.
When asked about the example set by Miss Cyrus, Miss Lawrence told the BBC’s Newsnight programme: ‘It is a part of the entertainment industry that sells. Sex sells, and for some disgusting reason young sex sells even more.’
Miss Lawrence stopped short of naming 20-year-old Miss Cyrus, but said: ‘For some people, that’s how they feel best, that’s how they feel sexy.’ She said that as long as she stars in movies that appeal to young girls, she will ‘make conscious decisions’ to set a good example.

She said she hopes her portrayal of Katniss Everdeen in the Hunger Games encourages young women to value strength of character over appearance.
The star, who won the best actress Oscar for Silver Linings Playbook this year, said: ‘Growing up I didn’t have a female hero the way that Katniss is and I think she’s a wonderful role model for young girls. I’m happy that they have a character like that.’
Her comments came as she took to the red carpet in London in an elegant white silk and sequined Christian Dior gown.
It could not have been in starker contrast to Miss Cyrus’s choice of outfits at the  MTV Europe Music Awards in Amsterdam on Sunday night, when she wore a skin-tight dress to dance with a dwarf and lit what looked like a cannabis cigarette.

Dazzle in a multi-colour sequin dress

Jennifer Lawrence dazzled on the red carpet at the world premiere of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, in London on Monday night.

It may have been wet and cold, but the 23-year-old braved the bad weather in a backless cream silk and sequin Christian Dior gown from their AW13 haute couture collection.

Whilst we're not sure it is the most flattering style on Jennifer (we'd have preferred something a little more form-fitting to show-off her fabulous figure), we absolutely love it's multi-coloured sequin panel.

With the party season coming up, now is a great time to invest on a suitably sparkly dress. Sequins are always a sure-fire party dress hit, and as Jennifer's Dior dress shows, a mix of brightly coloured sequins is both fun and festive.

Like the look? Then check out our edit of multi-coloured sequin dresses below. From a £700 only-for-the-brave sheer number to an easy-to-wear dress for under £50 - we've found something for everyone.

While Jennifer's dress was certaily elegant, unfortunately its generous cut did little to accentuate her youthful figure, while the embellished pattern resembled the messy aftermath of an explosion in a Smarties factory.
The actress completed her look with a pair of conventional blue heels, and she put them  to good use by sashaying across the red carpet for a brief interview with host Edith Bowman - during which she thanked fans for braving the cold weather.

Hundreds had camped overnight in Leicester Square and they were were present on a wet and windy night in the capital to catch sight of the cast.

Speaking about being a role model, she said: 'I don't think you make a decision to be a role model. I didn't set out to be one at all. It's something that just happens when you're in the spotlight you just have to look at what you want the younger generation to hear.
'I think Katniss is a very good role model, she's strong and not afraid to stand up for what's right.'
Josh Hutcherson, who was also in attendance, agreed: 'No, not at all, we were not awed at all. First of all, because we expected it so much because she's so brilliant.
'But on top of that, she's our friend. We were so happy for her and congratulatory, but it was right back to work. We didn't really have time to get shocked and awed at all.'

Speaking about his character, Josh said: 'In this movie you see a lot more of Peeta as a person, and his relationship with Katniss developing. Its great to have more to show people and I get step up and show off my things.'
Also in attendance were Liam Hemsworth and Elizabeth Banks, who turned heads in a zesty yellow gown.
Indeed, leading lady Jennifer appeared to have been upstaged by her co-star - whose distinctive dress color perfectly matched her flaxen hair and pale skin tone.
The actress's outfit was all the more eye-catching thanks to the two open panels on either side of her waist, while her bold use of make-up  gave her look an added splash of colour.

Hutcherson looked dapper in a smart two-piece suit as he cheerfully signed autographs for fans lucky enough to get standing room within touching distance of the film's stars.
Young actress Willow Shields also stood out as she greeted fans and photographers in a lemon yellow dress accessorized with a pendant hanging from a long chain around her neck.
The 13-year-old star chose to match her striking dress with a pair of powder pink heels that clashed with the red carpet.

Jena Malone also made a statement in a flame red dress from Monique Lhullier that was all the more striking thanks to its fringed shoulder and hem detail.
Much like her co-stars the actress chose to pare back the accessories, and by doing so ensured that her outfit granted the lions share of attention.
The less is more mantra appeared to adopted by another star on the night.
Indeed, Game Of Thrones star Natalie Dormer made something of an entrance in a black semi-sheer dress with spotted detail and embellished arms.

New cast-member Sam Claflin was accompanied by wife Laura Haddock - who looked stunning in an elegant white Sophia Kah gown with an intricate embellished design running across the back.
The British actor was in high spirits, gracefully sweeping his wife her off her feet before they made they way inside the Odeon.
He told the MailOnline: 'On the Finnick Odair scale of buff-ness from 1-10 I reckon I'm on a two. It was really nerve-wracking when I got the call as I wanted to do him [his character in the film] justice.'

Speaking to host Edith Bowman shortly before the event got underway, producer Jon Kilik credited Jennifer Lawrence and her cast-mates for making the franchise such a success.'
'The actors are what it's all about and with this cast it's magic,' he said
Jennifer, who got the chance to wear a number of extravagant outfits in the film, told the press: 'I enjoyed some of it, but the dresses are so lovely in fittings, but when you wear them for 12 hours a day you want to burn them.

She said: 'I am just like the worst talker in the world, as I start listening to myself, I'm like you suck.'
Talking about her family, she said: 'Family is incredibly important to me. I wouldn't be here because my parents wouldn't have taken out a second mortgage to let me do this. They're my rock.'
She added: 'I love this movie so much and I'm excited to show it, so I might not get nervous as there's nothing to be nervous about.'
