His name has become synonymous with Saturday night entertainment after almost half a century of presenting.
But as he prepares for another night in front of the cameras this weekend with the latest live instalment of Strictly Come Dancing, Sir Bruce Forsyth concedes that he can’t go on forever.
‘I know I’m on borrowed time,’ he tells The Mirror. ‘How I’m still here I just don’t know. I don’t know how, why or wherefore. But I’m not really questioning it that much. The day will come and it could be tomorrow, who knows?’

Bubbly Claudia Winkleman replaced him while he recuperated at home, but Sir Bruce isn’t ready to walk away from his role just yet.
Indeed, over the Summer he was back to his sprightly best when he performed for revellers at the Glastonbury Festival in Somerset.
‘When the time is up I’ll be ready for it,’ he said. ‘I probably won’t be very happy about it. But I’ll know it’s time to go.’
The presenter admits the new clause in his Strictly contract that enables him to take a much needed break - two weeks last year, three this year – has given him a second wind, but should he walk away from the show he insists he won’t be retiring.

His decision to persevere may well have something to do with the crop of celebs gracing the dance-floor on the current series, who he describes as the ‘best yet.’
But while their fancy footwork gets the thumbs up, Sir Bruce says he often takes a dim view on some of their backstage antics.

The presenter began his career working the stage on Sunday Night At The London Palladium before going on to front a string of game shows during the 70s and 80s – amongst tghem The Generation Game, Play Your Cards Right, The Price Is Right and You Bet!
Married three times, Sir Bruce now divides his time between homes in Surrey and Puerto Rico with his third wife, former Miss World Wilnelia Murced.
